Project Description |
COSPE submitted a proposal to
the Egyptian-Italian
Debt-for-Development Swap for a
new phase of the Marketing Link
Program, with the approval of
the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Subsequently, a Project
Implementation Agreement was
signed between COSPE and the
Management Committee of the
Debt-for-Development Swap. The
present proposal was identified
on the basis of the following
elements:
Many new producers groups ask to
COSPE to be introduced in the
Egypt Craft Center (ECC) network
receiving support in term of
training and technical
assistance to make their work
economically more efficient
having the possibility to be
included in the ECC marketing
network.
During the field activities,
potentialities in terms of new
craft production and
agro-processed products were
identified. This can be a strong
basis for supporting
complementary income-generating
activities for women, young
people and unemployed in rural
and urban area, especially
because trough ECC there is a
direct contact with the market,
at the national and
international level, and there
is an increasing demand for such
type of production.
The
aim of this project is to
contribute in alleviating
poverty among vulnerable groups
(rural residents, women, youth,
unemployed) by supporting the
development of income generating
activities in the craft and
agro-processing sectors and to
pursue the potentialities
identified at the production and
marketing levels. This Project

MARKETING AND

ORGANIZATIONS IN EGYPT –
COSPE

Project Description |
Marketing and Institutional
Support to Handicraft
Producers’ Organizations in
Egypt” project is another
initiative that provided
support to Marketing Link
Program. The objective of
the project was to improve
the economic prospective of
Egyptian handicrafts
production through
Strengthening the
organizational, productive
and trade capacities of
handicraft producers located
in different Egyptian
regions.
MLP I develop the capacity
of Craft Producer NGOs to
access local, tourist and
export markets through the
development of their work
processes and structures
withregards to product development, production
management and
organizational management.
In parallel, MLP I program
has developed the capacity
of a fair trade company that
provides distribution
channels and marketing
services to these NGOs. The
MLP program has provided
business development
services as well as budget
support until break-even
point of the company. The
program has employed a
variety of methods towards
the NGOs as well as the Fair
Trade Company.

TRAINING OF TRAINERS FOR
HANDICRAFTS PRODUCTION
BY WOMEN NGOS IN YEMEN

Project Description |
This project aimed at enabling
managers, trainers and
trainees of the NGO
Marketing Center that
consists of 9 women NGOs and
other non-partners NGOs to
develop high quality
products for the tourist
market and to acquire skills
in financial management to
increase the income of women
producers and reduce
poverty. The training
program was built on
Training of trainers and
participatory approaches in
the areas of Financial
Management, Marketing and
Production Management. It
aimed at providing NGOs
Management with the
necessary skills to control
and manages available
financial resources in their
organizations, with the
purpose of carrying out
successful activities that
could ultimately benefit the
members of these NGOs as
well as helping to increase
the sales of their
handicraft products. Our
main approach was to work on
the appropriate strategies
for the 9 NGOs in Sana’a to
ensure the sustainability
and viability of the
training.

Project Description |
Marketing link Program is a
non-profit initiative
launched by NSCE in 1990 to
support Egyptian crafts
producers. It aims at
improving their standards of
living by increased income
generation, while preserving
the local heritage through
crafts. In 1997, World
Education and NSCE initiated
a collaboration in order to
provide additional technical
and financial support to
NGOs and producer groups
working in the framework of
MLP program.
The overall objective of the
project was to a) facilitate
registration requirements
with MOSA for at least 5
Egyptian NGOs; b) NGOs
demonstrates improvement in
priority; c) 30% increase in
the volume of MLP
participants organizations;
d) increase in producers’
income by 30 %; creation of
200 new job opportunity; e)
90% of the delivered
products to ECC have
witnessed improvement in the
quality and last but not
least f) All NGOs will
involve their producers in
decision making process.
NSCE/World Education have
upgraded the capacity of the
Crafts producers through
designing and delivering a
number of training packages
in the fields of
organizational development,
financial management and
production Management. Based
on the Training Needs
Assessment conducted in the
beginning of the project,
these training packages were
customized to meet the needs
of the participants. The
overall aim of the training
component of MLP – World
Education Phase was to equip
handicrafts CDAs with the
skills, attitudes and
systems to effectively
manage existing production
activities that benefits the
crafts producers.
The expected long-term
result is to strengthen the
organizational, trading and
production capacities of the
handicraft producers
involved, enabling them to
establish a self-managed
umbrella organization.
