PREPARATORY PHASE FOR ECOTOURISM IN FAYOUM

Project Description The potential for sustainable tourism in the Fayoum, with its world class fossil remains, its lakes, pristine desert areas, bird sanctuaries, rural quietude and cultural monuments is very high. Yet, due poor signage, services, interpretation and infrastructure facilities, the visitor number at cultural, natural and archaeological interesting sites is low and the benefit of current tourism is minimal as far as economic benefits for the local population and the governorate are concerned. Properly planned tourism could help to develop and diversify the local economy, provide much needed income and arrest environmental degradation by showing the people the economic benefit of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
