The
MENA Child Protection Program hosted
at the Arab Urban Development
Institute is preparing reviews of
the status of urban children in ten
MENA cities, outlining the key
institutions responsible for
addressing children’s issues and
assessing their capacity.
The purpose of these reviews is to
prepare a phased capacity building
exercise in selected institutions
(including the governor and
municipal offices), in order to
address children issues in urban and
peri-urban settings with reference
to child protection of vulnerable
and disadvantaged children.
NSCE has been
contracted to provide consultancy
services focusing on the review/
assessment in Alexandria. The
consultancy will include the
following:
A review of the
status of urban children, including
health, nutritional, educational and
social status, by gender and age
group. As well as the review of the
nature and magnitude of the problems
faced by these children in
Alexandria with a comparison between
urban and rural children.
An outline of
institutions responsible for
addressing children issues in
Egyptian urban areas, especially in
Alexandria. In addition to
municipality offices, NGOs, key
actors in this field as well as the
ones who potentially could play a
major role in children’ s issues.
An assessment of
the capacity of selected
institutions, including
recommendations for capacity
building needs and a phased action
plan for capacity building in
including costs. The findings
of the study has been compiled
into a final report that includes
the above reviews and assessments.
